Shilpgram Festival Udaipur 2017-A vibrant union of regional Art,food,and dance

Shilpgram Festival is an annual fest organized towards the end of December month and lasts until the onset of the New year.The festival is organized by the ‘West Zone Cultural Center’.The festival is organized at ‘Shilpgram’ which is an artificial village spread over 70 acres and dedicated to rural art and crafts.Like every year the Shilpgram festival Udaipur 2017 was full of fun and vibrance, you start feeling the festive vibes as soon as you enter when we entered there were Rajasthani folk artists dancing on the traditional Rajasthani music played by the fellow artists(refer video).You get an experience of the traditional Rajasthani culture with beautifully decorated camels, the mud and hay huts, the walls painted in the mud with traditional paintings. The festival hosts more than 600 artists and artisans and 400 stalls from 21 states of India.As you walk through you encounter exemplary piece of art in the form of handicrafts which includes jewelry, bags, footwear, showpiece, dolls, wall hangings, sarees, salwar suits paintings etc, the handicrafts arrive from different states like West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh etc.The festival is foodie’s paradise, you get to taste the authentic regional food and delicacies, you can have Rajasthani food like daal-bati-churma, dhokla, bajre ki roti, raabdi, Punjabi food like Amritsari Chhole Kulche, Makki ki roti and Sarson ka saag, Lucknavi Biryani, milk and makkhan malai, Kashmiri Kawa, Haryanvi Jaleba, bhajiye, Kullad tea, chaat, pakode and many more cuisines to relish.All the food items are served ‘smoking hot’ which tastes great in the cold weather.

The cultural performance in the evening are the highlights of the Shilpgram festival, you need to acquire seats at 5 pm to enjoy the show while sitting as it gets packed with the crowd and you have to see the show while standing.The artists from different states perform the various regional dance forms like Bihu(Assam), Sirmuri Nati (Himachal Pradesh), Rop Mallakhamb (Maharashtra), Hozagiri (Tripura), Pung Cholam (Manipur), Bhapang(Rajasthan), Bhangra(Punjab), Sidhidhamal etc.
